Many sleep on a futon, not a mat, a mattress, as shown in the floor.But lot of people now use the western style bed.The futon bed that looks like a sofa that is sold here is not a Real futon.
In the words of others, we sleep on futons and tatami mats on it. Not directly on the tatami.
But the people more and more people use beds. I think it is 50:50, the men sleeping on futons and sleeping in a bed.
Yes, they liked the mat on the bed
